North Ireland 📍 Downhill Demesne📍
Downhill demesne & Mussenden temple is a #nationaltrust
property located on North Ireland's Causeway Coastal Route. The demesne includes a summer house, dovecote, walled gardens & a mausoleum.
The Mussenden temple was built as a library, and modelled after the Temple of Vesta in Rome. It sits precariously on the cliff edge.
The Downhill house was built in the late 18th century by the Earl Bishop of Derry. Much of the building was ruined by a fire in the 1850's, and subsequently rebuilt, but it fell into ruins after the WWII. It is set on wide open fields, overlooking the beach. The roofless ruins are located on a strategic position on the vast grounds, offering panoramic views.
