Hell—I mean—Killington photos are out!
This race was not pretty. And neither was my face. Nor my ankle.
•”13.1” (read: 14+) miles
•”6695” (read: 6900+) feet of elevation
•60F high temps with rainy/foggy conditions
•The “death march,” 1500 feet of elevation within a mile of straight incline
But that doesn’t mean this race didn’t have its highlights.
•Crossing the second truss of the #beastmode #spartantwister
before exhausting my arm strength but getting cheered on by volunteers and other racers and struggling all the way to the bell for completion with additional cheers and exclamations of, “It IS possible!!”
•A hero racer providing me with heavy doses of ibuprofen and an ankle wrap
•A lying but awesome spectator descending the death march in a gondola telling us there was chocolate-covered bacon and various candies at the top
•Reaching the top of the death march and discovering the lying but awesome spectator did NOT lie and indulging in a Lucky Charms marshmallow bar and Sour Patch Kids
•Finally getting to make use of a Super Mario mushroom “tap for a boost” sign that a young spectator was holding for racers
•Preparing for an impossibly heavy, rain-weighted, #beastmode #herculeshoist
and finding out it was #sprintmode
•Repeatedly meeting my ankle twin throughout the course and making it all the way to the end after both of us refused to let the medics pull us off the course for treatment
•Completing my x5 #spartantrifecta
for the year
This race was not kind. But this race was only a warm up. This race was the hardest #spartanbeast
that @spartan could throw at me. But this race was just a stepping stone on the #roadtotahoe
where I’ll face the first race that I’m not certain I could complete. But that won’t keep me from trying. #spartanultra
