This week Selena Blake (left), guest on last week and this week’s podcast episodes and I, join with a couple of dozen other people concerned about the lives of people with disabilities to meticulously analyze services using an assessment tool called PASSING.
It is an intense, week long process. Most days lasting well over 12 hours while we do our best to put our selves in the shoes of the people receiving service.
Last night though, some of us gathered to meet and break bread. On the right is my room mate for the week, HeeJin, cooking up some chicken for us.
But today it is all work!
One of the questions that we will ask ourselves is, “what are the fundamental needs of the people being served?” My guess is that for a lot of them, a fundamental need will be for someone(s) to love them.
If you love someone with a disability and worry that they will be lonely then helping the person the develop relationships is one of the most powerful safeguards you can put in place.
On June 3, there is a free event teaching people how to help others build a context for relation building.
