Brandilyn gave birth to her second son, a beautiful baby boy, with the help of her best friend and doula Meredith. Her story is such a great reminder that support is everything, no matter what kind of birth you’ve had. Also, she is a radiant and beautiful mom. Congrats, Brandilyn!

Both of my boys were born via c-section, and in both cases, my doulas were worth their weight in gold. I talk to a lot of women who think if they’re having anything other than an unassisted birth, they won’t need a doula, and I wish I could preach my pro-doula agenda to the mama masses!
In my first birth, I had no idea what to expect from a c-section. I thought my birth now belonged to someone else. I felt powerless. Katy @casa_de_estrogen talked me through the ways I could communicate with my team, advocate for myself, and reclaim the experience as my own. She made me feel powerful when I had felt so helpless. She helped me identify the things that were important to me, she held my hand (and my boob 😂) through those first painful days of nursing, and she reminded me at every turn that I was capable and powerful.
At Whit’s birth, my doula/BFF @meredithtutt showed up to rub my feet the night before (I’ll never forget that act of kindness!), to transport my placenta, to take pictures. She stood guard at my hospital door while I napped. She reminded me at every turn that I am capable and powerful.
A good doula isn’t there to push her own agenda on your birth. A good doula shows up to support you emotionally, to know your story, to help advocate for the things YOU want. Birth matters. My son’s births have shaped me in profound and beautiful ways and I don’t know that the experiences would have been as personal, as MINE, without my angel doulas 😭💪🏽
