The Texas redbud ( #Cerciscanadensisvartexensis
) were just starting to bloom in Austin, #Texas
last month! This variety of redbud is smaller, has glossy leaves with wavy edges and is more tolerant to dry conditions than the northern variety. This plant is found in hilly areas with calcareous soils. The Texas redbud is found from Oklahoma through central Texas down into Mexico. #Fabaceae
I saw this plant at the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve outside of Austin. This preserve was founded in 1974 to protect native Texas Hill Country habitats. Originally the land of the Tonkawa and the Comanche.
