NOM 1492. Patron. We all know the name and we admit, we always have a bottle of one of thier expressions on hand. Global marketing reach and always available here in Australia make it an easy to find "semi" premium sipper.
Patron is a household name and usually a starting point for many introductions into sipping tequila but once you've done your research and tastings, it may be best mixed into a great cocktail.
With natural agave and vanilla notes, the anejo has a slight burn with a distinct oak and alcohol flavour. Its fairly well balanced on the palette with a slight hint of honey at the finish. Its not cheap however and usually fetches over $100 here and for the price, there are far better sippers around.
To Patrons credit, a tahona is still used along with stone/brick ovens which is something that can get thrown to the side in preference of quicker distilling methods in large scale producers.
It's a simple, non complex and readily available tequila.
While it's handy to have a bottle around, compare this to a Fortaleza or G4 for instance and you will quickly realise the difference in quality.
