Traffic is building on the M1 after as multiple emergency service vehicles respond to an accident on the major motorway.
National Highways reports that traffic has been stopped due to a collision and overturned vehicle.
The incident occurred on the southbound between J5 Watford and J4 Edgware, Hertfordshire
One witness at the scene posted on X: "Seen 8 ambulances, 6 cop cars & 5 fire engines pass on the hard shoulder and now a helicopter in the sky.
"Avoid using the M1 into London. Hope everyone is ok #M1 #M1motorway."

Delays for drivers
It is unclear exactly how long delays will be however some people stuck in the traffic have shared updates.
One person who is currently stuck in the traffic has said that people have been “walking down the traffic from miles back to have a look at what’s happened”.
He has also been told that it may be over an hour until his vehicle will be able to move, reports Watford Observer.

Air ambulance called to crash
A person has been rushed to hospital after the air ambulance and other emergency services were called to a serious M1 crash near Watford, reports Watford Observer.
Four people have been treated at the scene by the East of England Ambulance Service.

Traffic at 'standstill'
Some people stuck in traffic on the M1 have taken to X to share their updates.
One person posted an image showing queues of traffic on the motorway.
The caption reads: "I've been in a standstill on the M1 just between Watford and Edgware for over an hour
"Apparently there's been a really serious crash and they've closed the motorway southbound towards London
"Keep seeing helicopters flying just ahead to the scene
"Prayers for those involved!"

People 'walking down the motorway to see what happened'
A driver stuck in the traffic told the Watford Observer that people are “walking down the traffic from miles back to have a look at what’s happened”.

Vehicle on its side and one person trapped
Two vehicles were involved in the accident. One vehicle is on its side and a person is trapped in one of the vehicles.
Herts Fire and Rescue have sent four fire engines to respond to the incident.
Rescue efforts for the trapped driver are ongoing.

Latest information after M1 accident
According to motorwaycameras.co.uk, Normal traffic conditions are expected between 14:45 and 15:00 at J5 near Watford.
All lanes are also closed southbound between J2 (M1 J2 / Mill Hill) and J1. Normal traffic conditions are expected between 16:00 and 16:15.
